Ever thought about putting a throttle trigger on the flaps handle? Squeeze with index finger for throttle, that way you dont have to move your whole hand and arm to switch controls...

A "grasshopper" landing gear could make a zero foot takeoff possible. On the ground, you set a spring-loaded mechanism, like setting a mousetrap. In the plane, you rev the engine and flip a lever that releases the spring, and the plane hops into the air.

A good enough gust and you can make it zero. In fact you can lift off going backwards in a good Chinook gust in Boulder, CO - if your plane doesn't flip the moment you untie it.
